MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Former President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has spoken about the recent elections in Somalia, especially the presidential election which was won by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Mohamed Farmajo said he was proud that he handed over the power to Hassan Sheikh peacefully amid some countries in the continent experiencing violence over power transfer.
older and more democratically elected governments in Somalia were sometimes embroiled in controversy over election results.
The victory of the elections, Farmajo said, is not just for one person, but for the whole of Somalia in terms of the overall picture of the transition.
“We know that countries with strong and democratic institutions are sometimes marred by controversy over the outcome of their elections. The victory we are proud of today is not unique to anyone. It is a victory for Somalia from the overall picture, a victory for our reputation as a government,” Farmaajo said.
Former President Farmaajo said that the country now has an elected and functioning government.
“The country has a functioning government and elected leadership that has full legitimacy and represents us. Everyone in power has a time rule,” said Farmaajo.
