NEW YORK ( Halbeeg News) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned mortar attack on o on the compounds of the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia on Sunday.
According press release, the mortar attack on UN compound at Halane base left at least six people injured.
The secretary-general reiterated his strong support to all UN colleagues in Somalia. He reaffirmed that the UN remains determined to support the federal government of Somalia and all Somalis in their pursuit of peace and stability, said the statement.
Mr. Guterres wished a quick recovery to all those injured according his spokesman Stephane Dujarric, in a statement.
Armed group al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack saying it hit the UN base with nine mortars killing nine people though claim cannot be independently verified.
The group claimed several mortar attacks targeting the base in past years.
