BERBERA (Halbeeg News)-The presidents of Ethio-Somali region, Mustafa Omer and officials from Somaliland, have today launched Berbera corridor, a road linking Somaliland and Ethiopia in Berbera town in northern Somalia.
President Omer has attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the road project which is expected to be one of the roads that Ethiopia will use to transport its goods to Berbera port for exportation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the leader affirmed that the relations between the Somali region in Ethiopia and Somaliland.
“Today is such historical day; this ceremony paves the way for new era which will cement the relation between Somali regional state and Somaliland, we hope the construction of this will soon begin, and the profit will be felt as soon as possible,” he said.
He commended the role of Somaliland authorities for improving the relationship of the regions.
Somaliland Minister of Transport and Roads, Abdullahi Abokor Osman who was also present at the ceremony confirmed that construction of the road would commence mid-March.
“This is a single most important project for Somaliland which it cooperates with Ethiopia. It will improve transport in the region as well as the movement of people in both countries. I laud the commitment of the leaders of Somali regional state in Ethiopia to help Somaliland fulfill this longtime dream,” he said.
