ADDIS ABABA ( Halbeeg News)- Ethiopia’s ministry for Petroleum on Wednesday increased retail pump prices for diesel and kerosene by different price margins in the latest review for January to mid-February.
In a statement, the ministry said the new fuel prices took into account the price increase for fuel at the global market.
The ministry has announced that the new prices will be effective today, January 31, 2019.
According to the statement, the price for a litre of benzene has increased to 20.19 birr from 19.69 birr; a litre of diesel to 18.03 birr from 17.78 birr, a litre of light black diesel to 15.66 birr from 15.41 birr, and a litre of hard black diesel to 15.15 birr from 14.90 birr.
The new prices of a litre of aeroplane fuel, blended fuel (a mixture of benzene and ethanol) and kerosene are 20. 62 birr; 19.89 birr; and 18.03 birr, respectively.
The new prices will mainly hurt motorists who depend on petrol and diesel for transport and low-income earners who heavily rely on kerosene for cooking.
