MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least sixteen Somali migrants who were repatriated from Russia were received by the Somali authorities on Saturday in Mogadishu.
Russian security forces arrested the Somali migrants but later handed them over to Somali authorities before the Somalis were repatriated to Somalia.
The migrants welcomed by Somali authorities at the airport.
The development comes barely a month after the Estonian government accused the Russia government of allowing migrants from Somalia and other countries to cross into Estonia.
Minister of the Interior Lauri Läänemets (SDE) said eight Somali citizens attempted to cross into Estonia from Russia, without the right of entry to the Schengen Area. This comes at a time when “migration pressure” from Russia on the Finnish border has also increased.
Approximately 900 asylum seekers from nations such as Kenya, Morocco, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen entered Finland from Russia in November, an increase from fewer than one per day previously.
