MANDERA (Halbeeg News) – Kenya police officers have arrested three al-Shabaab suspects in Mandera town near the country’s border with Somalia.
In a statement, the police said the suspects were nabbed while sneaking into Mandera from Bula Hawa in Somalia.
The suspects are in custody for further interrogations and subsequent court appearances.
The police said suspects are suspected to have taken part in the recent terror attack involving a motor vehicle within the Fino town of Mandera county.
The officials said the manhunt for other suspects who are still at large has been intensified in the area which borders Somalia.
The police have blamed local al-Shabab sympathizers for the attacks in the region which have always targeted security personnel and civil servants including teachers.
The development comes days after the government of Kenya deployed hundreds of soldiers to enhance the security of towns and villages near its border with Somalia.
Kenya has thousands of soldiers working under the framework of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (Atmis).
The East African nation first deployed its soldiers to fight al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia in 2011 following allegations that the group abducted dozens of tourists from Kenyan coastal regions.
