MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali officials in central Somalia have paraded three senior al-Shabaab operatives in Eldher town of Galgaduud region.
According to officials who spoke to the state owned media, the thrio were nabbed after the security forces launched operation to comb to the town which recently to fell the government’s hands after al-Shabaab fighters vacated the locality.
The operatives were identified as Abdirashid Moalim, Abdi Ganya’o and Mas’ud Ali.
It is not yet clear how these ring leaders holed up in the town as their comrades fled the area.
Somali government forces in collaboration with local clan militias have recently recaptured Harardhere and Eldhere without resistance after al-Shabaab fighters fled the towns.
The towns were under al-Shabaab control for more than a decade.
The government has intensified operations against al-Shabaab fighters in south-central Somalia following all-out war declared by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Al-Shabaab lost dozens of villages and towns to Somali military since but the group still controls large swathes of territory in southern Somalia.
