MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Several al-Shabaab operatives were killed and dozens in an internal clash between two factions within the group in Buq Aqable location about 40 kilometres east of Bula-burte town in the Hiiran region.
According to the state-owned media, Abdikarim Yusuf Ahmed, one of its commanders was killed following clashes with another al-Shabaab faction.
Eight fighters loyal to Ahmed were killed in the clashes with dozens of others were wounded.
Sources who spoke to Sonna confirmed that the fighting was caused by a dispute over the abduction of some elders and civilians who were held hostage in the Hiiraan region.
The sources claimed that Ahmed opposed the holding of the captives and called for their immediate release, a move rejected by other al-Shabaab commanders in the area.
Earlier this month, an internal clash between two factions within the al-Shabaab group claimed the lives of at least ten al-Shabaab fighters in Mudug region’s Haradhere district.
The fighting which broke out in Amara village was caused by a disagreement between an al-Shabaab faction led by a senior leader identified as Muhyadin Daqare who was planning to defect to the Somali government and another group that opposed the move.
