MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has vowed to intensify the war on Al-Shabaab barely a day after the group killed a senior police officer in the Middle Shabelle region.
Al-Shabaab has targeted the Mogadishu police commissioner, Brigadier General Farhan Qarole and other several others with an Improvised Explosive Device planted on the roadside.
The explosion killed Brigadier General Farhan, several of his bodyguards and a journalist who was covering operations against al-Shabaab fighters.
Addressing dozens of people who attended the funeral service of the general, President Hassan warned the public against supporting al-Shabaab, saying “aiding and abetting al-Shabaab is an act of terrorism.”
“We have one enemy which is Al-Shabaab. There is no room for neutrality, you either support al-Shabaab or fight al-Shabaab,” he said.
President Mohamud eulogised Farhan Qarole, saying the general, together with other soldiers, made personal sacrifices towards liberation and his death is a big loss to the entire country.
“Farhan Qorole was a hero who was determined to free the terrorists from his country and protect his Somali people, and this hero martyred while fighting the enemy of this country,” President Mohamud said.
The President urged the public to take place in the fight against al-Shabaab.
“It is not common sense for us to accept their murderous actions. Every Somali has a duty to play his part in the fight against terrorism.”
