MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least ten people including government officials have been killed and several others in two suicide bomb blasts in Beledweyne town.
According to Beledweyne police commissioner, Bishan Hussein Jim’ale who confirmed the explosions at the Lamagalay area in Beledweyne towns.
Jim’ale said al-Shabaab used two vehicles packed with explosives to attack the area.
“Al-Shabaab has carried out these heinous attacks. Several people including civilians, government officials as well as soldiers,” he said.
Among the people killed in the explosions are Hirshabelle minister for Health, Hiiraan deputy governor and regional MPs.
Jim’ale vowed that they launch operations against al-Shabaab fighters in the region, saying “we mourn but we will take revenge against al-Shabaab.”
The attacks come amid Somali government forces in collaboration with locals conducted operations to liberate villages and towns under al-Shabaab control in the Hiiraan and Galgadud regions of central Somalia.
