MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The immediate former president of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has called on the country’s parliament to give the newly appointed PM vote of confidence “in order to form a government that will continue to develop the country”.
In a statement, Farmaajo has welcomed the appointment of Mr. Hamse Abdi Barre who was picked as PM last night by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
“I congratulate Mr. Hamse Abdi Barre on his appointment by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as the new Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia. I pray to God to make it easier for the Prime Minister-designate to fulfill his responsibilities, and I call on the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia to give him a vote of confidence,” said the former President of Somalia.
In a statement, Hamse’s predecessor, Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble welcomed his successor and wished him well in his new position.
“Congratulations to His Excellency Hamse Abdi Barre, who has today been nominated by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, as the 21st Prime Minister of the JFS. I wish the Prime Minister-designate success,” read a statement from the former Prime Minister.
Mr. Barre, a Member of Parliament from the Lower House of Parliament is a close ally of President Mohamud.
He served in several public and political roles and from 2011 to 2017 was secretary-general of the Peace and Development Party (PDP), the precursor to the Union for Peace and Development (UDP) now led by Mohamud.
