NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Refugees at Ifo Refugee Camp in Dadaab of Northeastern are counting losses after their main market was burnt down in a mysterious fire incident.
The fire broke out in the main centre of the market at the refugee camp on Friday night and burnt down several structures, but the exact damage or cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Police said no one was injured in the incident, but the refugees lost their valuables.
Mohamed Issa Osman, a committee member in the market has called on the authorities to launch investigation into the incident, saying it could be something intended to destroy the market by unknown people
“We need the government of Kenya to help us investigate and know what going on here because this was our lifeline and we do not allow envy people to destroy our properties easily,” Osman said.
In the five camps that make up the Dadaab Refugee Camp complex in north-eastern Kenya, there are more than 388,000 Somali refugees.
