MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least four Somali Soldiers have been injured after a vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) outside the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
According to witnesses, a Somali army convoy travelling along Balad-Mogadishu roads was attacked with a landmine.
The wounded soldiers were transported to Somali Mogadishu for treatment.
Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying the blast killed more than 10 soldiers.
The explosion comes amid the Somali military intensified operations against al-Shabaab fighters in central and southern Somalia.
Al-Shabaab has been fighting Somali forces backed by troops from African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (Atmis).
The group lost many towns including Mogadishu following deadly fighting with allied forces.
Al-Shabaab currently controlling number of villages and towns in southern and central Somalia.
