MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s newly elected President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has held talks with officials from World Bank barely three days after winning the the country’s Presidential elections held on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by Abdirahman Beileh Dueleh and other government officials.
In a statement, country’s foreign ministry said the officials and President discussed the way to improve the country’s economy
” We had the honour and privilege of being joined by Somalia’s new president H.E. @HassanSMohamud for a briefing with @WorldBank team. We discussed the economic reforms & the president reiterated his commitment to delivering further reform progress for the #Somali people,” the statement reads in part.
Mohamud who got 214 votes on Sunday defeated the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo who received 110 votes in the third round of vote.
The elect president was voted out of power in 2017 after serving as Somali president between 2012 and 2017.
The new president faces a daunting task in the Horn of Africa nation of 15 million people which is suffering drought, hunger and seemingly never-ending conflict.
