Mogadishu (Halbeeg News) – The death toll of an explosion at a beachside restaurant in Mogadishu, which was hosting Somalia’s police chief and legislators at the time has hit eight people.
The parmedics said the attack which happened at the Pescatore Seafood Restaurant, which opened recently in Lido Beach in Mogadishu’s south, left behind seven injuries.
The restaurant was known to be frequented by security and government officials.
Accordibg to the police, the government officials were unharmed in the blast on Friday, which sparked a fire inside the building.
Al-shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack
“Our special operations unit was responsible for the attack on government top officials including the police chief and apostate lawmakers, the attack has resulted in deaths and injuries among those at the scene in Abdul Aziz district,” the group said in a statement published on its Shahada News Agency.
The restaurant is not far from the country’s intelligence service headquarters.
