Garowe (Halbeeg News) – Puntland Vice President Ahmed Elmi Osman “Karaash,” has assumed the role of head of Puntland state government barely a day after Puntland leader Said Abdullahi Deni arrived in Mogadishu for campaign trail to pave way for his bid to take control of Villa Somalia.
Karaash in a Facebook post said he would be acring leader of the state to avoid power vacuum.
“I hereby tell to the people of Puntland that the state cannot enter a power vacuum, at this critical time as the people are struggling to overcome challenges of drought, economic hardship and youth unemployment in Puntland,” the leader said.
He added that the assumption of the presidency was only temporary and was not meant to unseat the current Puntland Head of State.
Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni, accompanied by members of both houses of parliament elected in Puntland on Tuesday arrived in Mogadishu.
Deni has already launched his campaign trail by hold talks with opposition leaders including former Somali president Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
There were calls by Puntland state politicians including former Somali prime minister Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, demanding the resignation of Deni but the leader defied their calls.
