MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – least ten al-Shabab fighters have been killed and several others wounded following clashes with Somali forces backed by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops in southwest of the country.
Speaking to the state owned media, Mohamed Ali Madey, a SNA military commander in Diinsoor town of Bay region said the allied forces foiled an attack on a base manned by Ethiopian forces under ATMIS.
The attack and subsequent clashes happened on Monday.
“Somali National Army and ATMIS forces in Dinsoor town of Bay region on Monday repulsed an attack on Army base by al-Shabab and killed ten al-Shabaab foghters,” the commander said.
According to Madey, three SNA soldiers sustained injuries during the fighting.
Al-Shabaab has fighting Somali government forces along with the Amisom troops for the past decade.
The group which once controlled much of southern Somalia including the capital was defeated and lost control of major towns including Mogadishu.
