MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo held a phone conversation Monday with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, António Guterres on Somalia’s parliamentary and presidential electoral process.
In a statement, Guterres expressed his solidarity with Somalia in the face of increased Al-Shabab attacks, and the drought the country is facing.
He also expressed his support for African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), and his hope that Somalia would be able to ensure its own security as soon as possible.
The Secretary-General and the President also discussed the electoral process in Somalia.
Guterres hoped there would be a swift conclusion for the electoral process and that any outstanding issues be addressed through dialogue.
Somalia is about conclude its parliamentary elections with majority of the MPs elected save for few members in Jubbaland and Galmudug States.
According to the Federal Electoral Implementation Team (team) and the office of PM, the MPs will be sworn in on April 14th.
