Lamu (Halbeeg News) – Suspected Al-Shabaab fighters killed five construction workers and several others including a chinese national in an attack in Lamu county of Kenyan coastal region.
According to multiple sources, the assailants who staged the attack on a construction site owned by the China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), burning down vehicles.
“The assailants stormed the site and shot dead several people. They also razed down construction vehicles and motorcycles before security agencies came to the workers’ rescue,” a source who spoke to Nation Africa said.
Kenyan government has not yet commented on the attack which happened about 7 kilometres from Kwa Omollo Bridge, near Bodhei Junction in Boni Forest, where Al-Shabaab burnt eight construction vehicles and other equipment belonging to the same company on January 23.
According to the sources, the assailants briefly kidnapped two Chinese nationals but were later released with one having his hands chopped off.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, saying its fighters killed six Kenyans and one Chinese in the attack.
