GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – The lawmakers in Somalia’s northeastern regional state, Puntland have demanded the summoning of security chiefs over ‘failure’ to protect their immunity.
Speaker Abdirashid Yusuf Jabril said the security chiefs will be summoned to appear before the parliamentarians to explain why they had not secured the immunity of MPs.
The motion was submitted by a team led by Mohamed Haraf.
The motion comes amid concerns that MPs had on several occasions in the recent past been barred from performing their duties.
It also comes in the wake of a fall out between the state president Abdullahi Deni and Puntland Security Forces (SPF) leadership.
SPF commander Mohamed Diano declined to leave office last week after he was fired by Deni sparking a rift within the forces.
