BELEDWEYNE (Halbeeg News) – At least two people including a mayor have been killed and several others wounded after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a restaurant in central Somalia.
According to witnesses, the bomb went off at the restaurant inside a police station in Beledweyne town of Hiiraan region.
The blast killed Ferfer township mayor, Khalif Garad Roble and the owner who was also a female police officer.
Among those wounded in the explosion are Ferfer district commissioner, Mahad Mohamed Hassan and Beledweyn police commissioner Mohamed Mohamud Qorshel.
Al-Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
