DHUSAMAREEB (Halbeeg News) – As it is not suitable for the country to hold one person one vote, the country’s stakeholders should agree on a common poll modality, regional states’ leaders said.
In a five-point communique issues in Dhusameeb town following two days summit, the leaders of Galmudug, Puntland, Jubbaland, Hirshabelle and Southwest states have ruled out universal suffrage in election.
They called for an alternative, inclusive model that allows upcoming election to take place within scheduled time.
“According to the chairperson of Electoral commission, Somalia cannot hold election on its schedule, therefore inclusive model should that allows upcoming election to take place within scheduled time be used,” the communique reads in part.
The leaders called for meeting with President, Prime Minister and leaders of the regional states to seek a politically negotiated electoral model.
The communique suggested that meeting between federal and regional states be take place in Dhusameeb town.
During the meeting, the leaders also agreed that the country’s regional states to cooperate on political, security and economy.
