GALKAYO (Halbeeg News) – Somali officials in cooperation with clan elders have succeeded to cease clan clashes in central Somalia’s central region Mudug.
Over 20 people were killed and about 25 others injured in fierce fighting in Town village.
Peace mission led by Somali National Army (SNA) force commander, Abdihamid Mohamed Dirir has succeeded to cease inter-clan fighting around Afbarwaqo and Towfiq areas.
Dirir and elders have convinced elders from both clans to hold dialogue to end their differences.
Speaking to the media, Dirir said the sides accepted cease-fire and to end hostility.
” We met leaders of the sides and talked about means to end the fighting and live in harmony with each other, we hope the sides to respect the outcome of our talks,'” he said.
Arguments over land use, boreholes and pasture have perennially contributed to fighting among Somali clans who are largely pastoralists.
