MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Tripartite Committee signed work on regulation labour and employment rights has for the first meeting in Mogadishu.
The meeting chaired by Somali minister for Labour, Sadik Hirsi Warfa has focused on the improvement of working standards and means to regulate labour and employee right.
Addressing the attendees of the meeting, the minister said the committee comprising of representatives from Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU), the ministry and International Labour Organisation (ILO) will pave the way job creation and employment rights for the first time in decades.
“For the first time, Somalia which is member of ILO has formed committee and is able to regulate labour and employee right. This will help the country to improve the job rate and the rights,” he said.
Minister underscored that his ministry is committed build the framework to boost job creation, develop labour progress policy saying that it will ensure the national labour policies are in line with international labour laws.
“Following the sacrifice and efforts of many stakeholders, we successfully formed this tripartite committee. This is a good step in improving the economy, facilitate job creation and protect employee rights.
Somalia completed the National Employment Policy for Somalia February this year.
The policy focuses on three priority areas namely strengthening private sector and promoting SMEs; supporting productive economic sectors for job creation and strengthening labour market governance.
