JIGJIGA ( Halbeeg News)-The authorities in Ethio -Somali regional state on Monday lifted night curfew in the state’s capital, Jigjiga.
The curfew which lasted for days was imposed last week after violence erupted in the city.
In a statement, the authorities said the curfew was dropped after the capital city was stabilized following operations conducted by the security forces to smoke out criminals.
The statement canceled the ban on public gatherings in the regional capital.
Last week’s curfew coincided with the day the Ethiopian high court in Addis Ababa brought formal charges against the former president of the region and 46 other local officials accusing them of planning and financing deadly violence in the area.
From June to August 2018, violence in the city resulted in the death of 59 people, injured 266, and thousands displaced.
Properties worth $14.8m that belonged to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, business centers, and private residences had either been looted or set on fire, according to the charge.
