MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News)-The top leaders of Somalia have today received high-level UN delegation in Mogadishu barely weeks after Somalia expelled UN envoy.
The UN delegation led byUnder-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo held talks with Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and prime minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre at the Villa Somalia.
Their discussions focused on how to enhance coordination between the Somali government and the United Nations.
Dicarlo commended the federal government comprehensive reform agenda and expressed the strong support of the United Nations for implementation of the milestones set out in the Somali government roadmaps on inclusive politics, security and Justice, economic recovery, and social development.
Her visit comes four weeks after Somali government expelled UN special representative in the country, Nicholas Haysom.
He was accused of interfering in the internal affairs of the federal government of Somalia.
on his part, the Prime Minister underscored government’s high regard for the work of the United Nations of which Somalia is a proud member, and emphasised Somalia’s commitment to its international obligations and membership.
The Prime Minister also made emphasis on the UN’s critical role in Somalia and thanked the organisation for its contribution to Somalia’s path from conflict to stability and growth.
The Somali leaders expressed their sympathy and solidarity with the United Nations in the wake of the attack on the UN compound on 1 January 2019.
They reiterated their commitment to enhancing the security and safety of UN personnel.
