NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Leaders from North Eastern have asked Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in the situation after results hundreds of form 4 students cancelled over alleged exam malpractice.
The lawmakers led by Dadaab MP Dahir Duale have expressed their anger over a decision by the examinations’ body to nullify the results of some schools in the region.
According to the leaders, Kenya’s examination body cancelled the results for 3,427 students from the region.
In a joint statement, the leaders said President Kenyatta should intervene to ensure the future of the students especially from marginalised counties is not affected by the decision from Knec.
MP Dahir questioned why there were mass irregularities during last year’s exams, and government agencies and Knec supervised the exams.
President Kenyatta was asked to have Knec rescind its decision to cancel the results saying that education plays a crucial role in keeping North Eastern youth from being radicalised and joining criminal groups.
“Knec had assured that they were prepared to tackle any malpractice and that there would be no exam cheating. It’s unfortunate that some students will not be able to get their results because of mass irregularities,” said Mr Dahir.
Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa claimed that the mass cancellation of results is deliberate negative profiling of the region which is marginalised.
“This region which is already marginalised is being targeted, and we want to know why. We can’t allow our children to suffer,” she said.
The cancellation of the KCSE results affected 44 centres in Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Isiolo counties.
