MOGADISHU(Halbeeg-News)-The Federal government of Somalia has strongly condemned the attack on UN compound in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
Two UN staffers and one contractor were wounded by mortar attack claimed by the armed group al Shabaab.
The press statement from the ministry of internal security released on Wednesday said the government is very concerned about the damages of the property caused by the attack.
“The ministry of internal security strongly condemns the heinous terror attack against UN compound in Halane, and it is very concerned about the damages caused to the property, ”a statement reads.
The statement further said that the government is investigating those behind the attack and assured the public that it will bring the assailants to justice.
“We wish a quick recovery to the injured people during the incident, we are investigating those behind the attack and will bring them to justice,” a statement said.
The statement issued by the government comes just hours after UN secretary general, Antonio Guterres condemned the incident and called the federal government to investigate the matter.
Mr. Gueteres said such acts would not diminish the strong resolve of the United Nations to continue supporting the people and the Government of Somalia in their efforts to rebuild peace and stability in the country.
The Federal government of Somalia has expelled the special envoy of UN Secretary-General, Nicholas Haysom from the country.
A press statement released by the ministry of foreign affairs and International Cooperation has blamed the envoy Haysom of violating the international diplomatic norms and thus should immediately leave the country.
