MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Puntland bans unauthorized arms from Garowe ahead of elections
Puntland regional state has banned the use and possession of unauthorized weapons in the administrative capital of the state, Garowe.
The announcement was made after the meeting of the regional security committee that is comprised of the state’s minister of interior, security chiefs, and the regional governor in Garowe on Tuesday.
The directive comes just one week to the regional state Presidential election which is slated for early next month.
Puntland regional minister for information, Abdi Hersi Ali has urged the residents of Garowe to closely cooperate with the members of the security agencies during the election period.
Hersi confirmed the deployment of forces in and around Garowe ahead of the elections to beef up the security during presidential elections that is slated on 8th January next year.
Presidential hopefuls are crisscrossing the state in a last-minute in a bid to garner enough votes of the delegates to win the elections.
The state has recently witnessed attacks and killings linked to armed group Alshabaab and pockets of Islamic State militants in the port city of Bosaso.
