BELEDWEYNE (Halbeeg New ) – The authorities of Hiran region is carrying out plans to end consistent inter-clan conflicts in the area.
A delegation led by Hiran governor, Yussuf Ahmed Hagar has arrived in Mahas town to broker negotiations to end the hostility.
The governor speaking to the media said his administration has been undertaking peace initiatives to iron out tensions between two clans.
The governor stated that his administration is committed to ending recurrent clan clashes in the region.
“We have been undertaking initiatives to stabilise the region. The first phase of our plan will be implemented in Mahas town where we want to start peace negotiations,” he said.
He urged the locals to collaborate with authorities in mediating the clans’ conflicts in the region.
The clans in South and central Somalia have been fighting for years over water and pastures.
The clashes displaced hundreds of families and destroyed properties.
