MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali government has invited member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) investors to explore the opportunities available in Somalia.
OIC Contact Group meeting on Somalia has kicked off in Mogadishu with attendance of representatives from over ten member states.
During his opening remarks of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Ministerial contact group meeting, Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire has commended the role of OIC members to support the horn of Africa nation.
PM Kheire said Somalia needs substantial to support to implement key priorities of the government.
“We have all ingredients for success, what we lack is a champion to change the narratives…. our brothers in the OIC can take the lead here, and challenge the world to begin to engage with the New Somalia under new terms,” the PM said.
The PM said all investors could benefit great investment opportunities of the country’s untapped resources and human capital.
“Although we are grateful for the aid and other support you provide to Somali. We prefer to trade with and attract investment to our country,” PM Kheire told the members of the IOC, “We need OIC to take advantage of the vast investment opportunities that exist in this new Somalia. With your support we can change the narratives, attracting investment, trading partners and security allies.”
The PM called on the OIC members to stand with Somalis in its efforts to build their country which is recovering from two decades of civil war.
“We have all ingredients for success, what we lack is a champion to change the narratives…. our brothers in the OIC can take the lead here, and challenge the world to begin to engage with the New Somalia under new,” he urged the participants of the meeting.
On his part, Hesham Yousef, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, Social, and Family Affairs said OIC and its Member States have intensified their assistance to the authorities of Somalia to strengthen institutions and to combat the menace of the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
He urged the terrorist groups to abandon their violence and join the peace process to contribute to national reconciliation in the emerging new Somalia.
