MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali forces backed by African Union Mission In Somalia have captured several villages in southern Somalia from Al-Shabaab.
In a well-coordinated operation, the allied forces took control of Fidow, Dhin-Garas, Maqudale, and Kiliga-Shinaha on the border between Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions.
Somali military officials said the operations were still underway to liberate more areas still under Al-Shabaab control.
The capture followed an operation by the allied forces in which there was no resistance as Al-Shabaab fighters who vacated the area following reports of troops’ movement.
Al-Shabaab has not commented on the capture of the villages.
The latest attack came amid increased military operations in the southern regions of the country, conducted jointly by African Union forces and the Somali National Army.
The allied forces hope to force out Al-Shabaab fighters ahead AMISOM exit.
