MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali leaders have called for an end to fighting which has so far claimed more than 40 lives in northern Somalia.
In a joint statement, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire said on Tuesday that the fighting had caused unnecessary deaths and suffering to many families in Dhumay and Farkeyngenyo localities of Somalia’s Sool.
” The federal government of Somali calls for a ceasefire and extends condolences to the families of the victim killed in the fighting,” the statement reads in part.
The leaders called on elders in the regions affected to resolve their differences for a common good of the country, saying the people in the region should unite and ensure that their reconciliation meetings become fruitful for the benefit of their region and the entire country.
The call comes barely a day after over forty people were killed and several others injured in clan clashes.
