MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)- A delegation led by Somalia’s foreign minister, Ahmed Issa Awad jetted off to New York in United States of America to attend the 73rd session of the UN general assembly.
The high level general debate will commence on Tuesday, 25th of September and it is scheduled to last for nine working days.
The foreign minister, Mr. Awad is expected to represent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and give the keynote speech of the president at the session.
Sources close to the presidency indicate that Somali president is expected to resolve a renewed political crisis in Galmudug state.
Earlier today, Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has summoned Galmudug leaders to an emergency meeting in Mogadishu aimed to mediate the current political crisis of the state in the central region.
The reconciliation conference meant to resolve the difference between the rival sides is scheduled to start in Mogadishu on 24th September.
The main agendas of this year’s UNGA session will be the humanitarian conditions in Yemen and Syria, the genocide against Rohinga Muslims in Myanmar, the fund cut to UNRWA by trump’s administration among others.
This is the second time president Farmajo is failing attend UNGA session in New York where all heads of states meet.
September 2017, Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre has attended the 72nd session of United Nations General assembly and delivered a crucial speech where the world leaders gathered.
Prime Minister Khayre also held meetings with world leaders during his stay at the UN headquarters in the United States of America.
