MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Mogadishu mayor, Abdirahman Osman Omar on Saturday met with African Union envoy to Somalia, Francisco Madeira in Mogadishu.
The two officials discussed a wide range of issues including security, the situation of the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mogadishu as well as human rights.
In a Twitter post, the mayor said he held talks with talks with Mr. Madeira over the rights of Somali National at Halane base.
“Today, I met with ambassador Madeira of AMISOM over issues (including) Mogadishu Stadium and means to respect rights of nationals particularly those at Halane base,” the mayor said in the post.
Early this week, Amisom handed over the Mogadishu Stadium to the government.
Amisom peacekeepers have been using the Mogadishu Stadium over the past eight years as one of their major security bases in the capital.
The peacekeepers started vacating the complex earlier this month, following a request from the Somali government in July.
The stadium is the biggest sports centre in the Somali capital.
