MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s lower house elections will be concluded between 15 January and 25 February, federal and regional state leaders have agreed following six day consultative forum in Mogadishu.
According to a communique issued on Sunday evening, the forum which was focus on finalising electoral process was attended Somali prime minister, leaders of Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Southwest, Jubbaland and the mayor of Mogadishu.
The forun also invited representatives from the opposition, Civil Society, Women and the International Community.
During the six-day meeting, the leaders discussed improving the transparency of the elections, the completion of the elections of House of the People, the conclusion time of the elections as well as ensuring poll security.
The leaders ageed in the communique that the Federal and State Election Implementation Team to execute their duties in accordance with the previous poll agreements.
“Federal and State Election Implementation Commissions, are independent in the conduct of elections, in accordance with the agreement of 17 September 2020, 1 October 2020, 27 May 2021, 22 August 2021 and the communiqué of 9 January, 2022,” the communique reads in part.
The communique reads that before the election of each parliamentary seat, the names of the members of the Delegation Selection Committee consisting of elders and the civil society of the clans sharing the seats must be clarified, registered.
The leaders agreed that State and Federal Election Commissions to ensure that the Electoral Delegates are selected by the Traditional Elders
