GURIEL (Halbeeg News) – At least six people including civilians have been killed and several others were wounded after rival government forces fought in Guriel town of Galgaduud region, sources confirmed Sunday.
The fighting between Gorgor forces and the town’s police started after several soldiers of Gorgor were arrested at the police station.
According to multiple sources, the fighting which lasted for more than an hour affected the movement of people and transport as well as the town’s business which became standstill for hours.
Four soldiers from both sides and two civilians were reprotedly killed in the fighting as more eight than other people who were wounded were rushed to the hospital.
Local authorities have not yet commented on the latest clashes between the government forces in the town.
Today’s fighting comes more than two months after more than 100 people including rival combatants were killed and thousands displaced following days long fierce fighting between regional Galmudug forces backed by the Somali National Army (SNA) and Ahlusunna Waljamaa fighters in Guriel town.
ASWJ is a group of moderate Sufi Muslims which has played a key role in the fight against al Shabaab insurgency.
