MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A Somali journalist has been wounded in a car bomb blast in Somalia’s capital.
Ismail Sheikh Khalifa, a former director at Star FM Radio based in Mogadishu who is also the head of Radio Hido based in Mogadishu was seriously injured when a bomb planted in his car exploded.
The journalist was rushed to a local hospital in Mogadishu.
There is no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but Al-Shabaab frequently carries out deadly attacks.
Somalia is often called one of the world’s most dangerous places for media workers.
This year, the country retained the dubious honour of being the world’s top media offender country for journalists for the fourth consecutive year ranking.
Impunity is entrenched in 14 nations, according to CPJ’s 2018 Global Impunity Index, which ranks states with the worst records of prosecuting the killers of journalists.
The report ranked Somalia the most dangerous country with 25 unsolved cases where journalists are slain and their killers go free.
