MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The United States has welcomed the creation of the South West State election committee and selection of the leadership team ahead of next month presidential election.
Southwest Regional Assembly Speaker Abdikadir Sharif Shekhuna Maye formed the state’s presidential electoral committee this month.
Mr. Maye announced a list of 27 individuals who will be the state’s electoral commission to preside over the presidential elections.
In a Twitter post, US Mission Somalia affirmed that they support the process to hold elections saying they will back no individuals.
The mission called for a free and fair election urging the sides to refrain interference of the region’s upcoming election process.

The date for which the regional election would take place would coincide the day the regional state was re-established in 2009.
