MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – African Union MIssion in Somalia (AMISOM) has refuted reports that 30 of its soldiers were killed in the IED attack that targeted its convoy in Hiran region.
In a series of tweets, the mission confirmed that the blast caused injuries of four of its soldiers who were treated at Belet Weyne Level II Hospital.
AMISOM urged the public to be wary of false reports and continue working closely with the security forces to bring lasting peace and security in the country.
The remarks come a day after AMISOM soldiers from Ethiopia injured in a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) that targeted a military vehicle in central Somalia.
The vehicle was in a convoy was travelling along Elgal-Jiwil road when it was hit by the IED, causing a massive explosion, witnesses said.
The convoy which was part of the Ethiopian military serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) was on their way to a town on Ethiopia’s border with Somalia.
