ANKARA (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers have displayed utmost integrity and discipline in their service to the country, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said.
While speaking at a town hall meeting organized by the Minbar Space Initiative on Wednesday, President Mohamud praised SNA for fighting terrorism and supporting civil authorities in the maintenance of peace and security.
The president expressed his “full confidence” in SNA for his security, calling himself “lucky” to be the first president to be protected solely by them after the country’s “destruction” by civil war and terrorism.
“I am proud of our brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives and limbs to defend our nation and our people. They have shown professionalism, discipline, and loyalty in the face of many challenges and threats. They deserve our respect and gratitude,” Mohamud said.
President Mohamud also confirmed that a review will be made of the salaries of the soldiers, and that their increase is important for the government of Somalia.
He said that the government is committed to improving the living conditions and welfare of the armed forces, as well as providing them with adequate training and equipment.
The president also thanked the international partners who have supported the SNA and current ATMIS and AMISOM in their efforts to combat the militant group Al-Shabaab and secure the country.
