MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Delegation of the European Union has extended condolences to the family and relatives of Somalia’s Minister for Women and Human Rights, Khadija Diriye, who passed away on Wednesday.
Deputy Information Minister Abdirahman Yusuf al-Adalah said that Minister Khadija was admitted to hospital while attending a conference with government officials in nearby Djibouti. She subsequently underwent surgery.
“The Delegation of the European Union wishes to express its deep sorrow and conveys its heartfelt condolences on the passing away of Hon. Khadija Mohamed Diriye, Minister of Women and Human Rights Development Somalia. Our thoughts and hearts are with her family,” the EU delegation in a statement.
The statement of EU delegation came hours after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also confirmed the death of the minister.
“President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and Somali people on the shocking death of Khadija Mohamed Diriye, who passed away in Djibouti on Wednesday,” state media reports.
