DOHA (Halbeeg News) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has departed for a condolence visit to Kuwait to offer condolences for the death of emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who was buried earlier on Sunday.
Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, 83, Kuwait’s day-to-day ruler during much of Sheikh Nawaf’s reign due to his ill-health, has succeeded his half-brother as emir.
President Mohamud, on behalf of the sentiments of the Somali people, expressed his condolences during a meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Sabah.
The visit is part of a broader expression of solidarity with Kuwait during this period of mourning.
The President, who was one of several Arab leaders to attend the late emir’s funeral, expressed his condolences to the Prime Minister and the Council of Emirs during the memorial service.
Foreign dignitaries arrived in the Gulf state of Kuwait to offer condolences for the death of emir.
Jordan’s King Abdullah, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas also visited the OPEC oil producer.
