MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres has arrived in Mogadishu Tuesday morning to back efforts to get humanitarian response for those affected by the severe drought in the country.
This is Guterres’s second visit to Somalia since 2017.
The UN chief was received by Foreign Affairs Minister Abshir Huruse at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu.
Guterres was escorted tp Villa Somalia where he is expected to meet with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Prime Minister Hamze Barre.
Sources privy to the trip confirmed that Guterres will proceed to Baidoa where he will assess the impact of the unfolding drought situation.
The UN chief will be ramping up international support for the humanitarian response in the country.
