Mogadishu (Halbeeg News) – Kenyan retired soldiers hailing from north-eastern region near Kenya’s border with Somalia have have pledged to work with security agencies in the area.
A group of elders who are retired Kenya Defence Forces soldiers from Garissa County vowed to help authorities tackle the threat of insecurity posed by the al-Shabaab group.
“We will work together and make sure that this country remains safe. Either in terms of intelligence, tactical knowledge, or any other duties that the government may assign us,” Hassan Waqo, KDF Association secretary said.
They will help in gathering and sharing intelligence reports with the government to counter terrorism, violent extremism and radicalisation among other vices that threaten peace.
The Garissa County commissioner Cherutich lauded the ex-soldiers for their commitment to ending terrorism and serving the people and nation.
“We are committed to ensuring that we support them so that they continue serving their community wherever they are, but above all, they have committed themselves that they are going to support the government in securing our county,” Cherutich said.
Garissa Town OCPD, James Ng’etich, said local police service will work hand in hand with the veterans to make sure the registered association is vibrant and executing its mandate in dissemination of information.
The National Veterans’ Association led by Brigadier Ondiek, seeks to establish a regulatory and institutional framework for the management of military veterans’ affairs and subsequent association has since been formed at county level.
