MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali government has claimed that its forces killed 23 al-Shabaab fighters following clashes with the group’s fighters in the Lower Shabelle region.
According to military officials who spoke to the state-owned media, the forces conducted operations against al-Shabaab fighters in Danawe village near Shalanbod town.
Somali National Army Chief, Odowa Yusuf Rage who confirmed the operation said the forces foiled the al-Shabaab attack.
“Our SNA forces killed 23 Al-Shabaab and injured others at the Danow location in the Lower Shabelle region this morning. The forces recovered weapons a large number of weapons during the operation” Odawa said.
Odawa vowed that the Somali forces would continue the operations to liberate the country from al-Shabaab fighters.
The development comes hours after Somali forces backed by local clan militias recaptured Harardhere and Gal’ad towns after al-Shabaab fighters the towns without a fight.
