BAIDOA (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army (SNA) said its forces recaptured a small town on the outskirts of Baidoa town following security operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in southwest Somalia.
In a statement, the military said Somali National Forces’ 60th Division liberated Gofgadud Burey town without resistance after al-Shabaab vacated the town. The town lies about 30km north of Baidoa.
The recapture of the town comes amid Somali forces backed by clan militias intensified operations against Al-Shabaab in central Somalia.
The allied forces liberated several towns in Hiiraan, Galgaduud, Middle Shabelle regions.
Last week, the government forces liberated Adan Yabaal, a town that was under the control of Al-Shabaab for more than six years.
