MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least five people have been killed and several others wounded after their vehicles hit an Improvised Explosive Device outside the Somali capital.
According to witnesses, the vehicle which was also carrying farm produce was heading to Mogadishu.
The explosion happened at Hawa-Abdi locality on the Afgoye-Mogadishu highway.
Among the victims killed in the blast were children, according to local authorities.
The injured people were ferried to Mogadishu’s Madina hospital for treatment.
No group claimed the responsibility for the attack but it has the hallmarks of al-Shabaab attacks. Al-Shabaab plants IEDs on the roads to target the government and ATMIS forces.
The Somali government has recently intensified operations against al-Shabaab fighters in central and southern Somalia.
