NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – A high-level delegation led Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi to attend the swearing in ceremony of William Ruto.
President Hassan was received at Kenyatta International Airport by some high rank Kenyan government officials.
Mr Ruto, the 55-year-old rags-to-riches businessman who once sold chickens on the roadside is due to take the oath of office on Tuesday as Kenya’s fifth president since independence in 1963.
About 20 heads of state from across Africa are expected in Nairobi to witness the transition.
Mr Ruto won last month’s election narrowly, beating the seasoned politician Raila Odinga in a result that was confirmed by the Supreme Court.
His rise to State House has been closely watched by the international community, which depends on Kenya as a reliable and stable democratic partner in a turbulent region.
Outgoing head of state, Uhuru Kenyatta, who in a stunning turn of events had backed his longtime archrival Odinga in the election race, has promised a smooth transfer of power.
Kenyatta finally shook hands with Ruto at a meeting at the presidential residence on Monday after pointedly failing to publicly congratulate his deputy for several weeks.
