ASMARA (Halbeeg News) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has travelled to Eritrea following an official invitation by Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.
President and his delegation were received at Asmara airport by President Isaias and officials from his government.
“H.E President @HassanSMohamud arrived in Eritrea this afternoon on a four-day state visit to the country. The President was cordially welcomed by President Isaias Afwerki of the State of Eritrea at the Asmara International Airport,” Villa Somalia said in a Twitter post.
According to Eritrean Information Minister, Yamane G. Meskel, two Presidents will hold talks on further consolidation of the warm ties between the two countries as well as on regional issues of mutual interest.
President Hassan Sheikh Mahmud and his delegation will also visit various parts of the country and ongoing development programmes.
In Mid 2018, Eritrea and Somalia agree to restore diplomatic relations following a three-day official by Somalia’s former president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
The countries have not had diplomatic ties for nearly 20 years.
